Kenny Crookston has spent a lifetime immersed in the world of brass bands — as a performer, journalist, and leader. A former editor of British Bandsman and now Chief Executive of Brass Bands England (BBE), Kenny is one of the movement’s most respected and recognisable voices.
With decades of experience both on stage and behind the scenes, Kenny brings an encyclopaedic knowledge of brass band history and a clear-eyed view of its future. He’s passionate about championing new music, supporting young talent, and strengthening the brass band community across the UK and beyond.
Sarah Baumann joined BBE in February 2019, as Education and Development Coordinator as part of a small staff team and has grown with the organisation, taking on the position of Chief Operating Officer in March 2023. She now oversees a busy schedule of activity and a 20-strong staff team, and is at the heart of the organisation’s mission to inspire, connect and support bands across the UK. A passionate advocate for creativity, diversity, and education in the arts, she oversees programmes that help bands grow, innovate, and reach new audiences.
She’s especially driven by the belief that everyone — from five-note beginners to professional ensembles — deserves access to new, exciting, and inclusive musical opportunities.
